Sarsaparilla (Smilax officinalis): Treats skin disorders, rheumatism, Liver problems, and hormonal excesses. Dandelion rt. (Taraxacum officinale): The main benefits of this herb are exerted upon the function of the liver. It has the ability to clear obstructions and stimulate and aid the liver to eliminate toxins from the blood. It also has a very high mineral content, which many of our foods today lack due to depleted soils. The leaf is one of the finest diuretics, and can be taken for fluid retention, cystitis, nephritis, weight loss, and hepatitis. Wild Yam (Dioscorea villosa): Useful for Liver and Gallbladder imbalance. It contains hormone precursors, especially progesterone and other cortical steroids that affect the menstrual cycle and reduce pain) Vitex (Vitex agnus-castus): Is an important woman’s herb in that it seems to regulate the menstrual cycle. It is also useful for the symptoms of PMS as well as menopause. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia): Commonly used in Chinese medicine as a warming stimulant. Used to help counter the cold qualities of the vitex. Licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis): Harmonize the actions of the other herbs. Orange peel (Citrus sinensis): Is added for its warm quality and taste. Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis) (Ch: Dang Gui): Nourishes and invigorates the Blood for anemia, dysmenorrheal, amenorrhea and other menstrual problems. Ginger root (Zingiber officinale): (You add to the blend) Ginger acts as a stimulant and warming agent. I find it best to use the fresh root, as the dried root changes its energy from warm to HOT. The taste will be very different.
